Here are their websites. Check em out and tell me what you think:

http://umsonline.org/index.htm

I just started college at the University of Toledo, but I'm not really enjoying it. It's really mainstream and I'm not sure about the major I selected either (Early Childhood Edu). I'm just not passionate about it. My REAL dream is to someday start a mind, body, spirit healing and learning center. I just came out of the broom closet to my parents and while they may be okay about it, they're not so okay with my interest in pursuing metaphysics on a professional level. My dad especially thinks I would in essence be A. wasting my talent and B. taking advantage of people if I was to get a degree in metaphysics. He obviously doesn't believe. My dilemma is should I:

1. Stay enrolled at Toledo and pursue a degree in something normal and forget all about metaphysics?

2. Stay enrolled at Toledo and finish out my degree there, while also pursuing my degree in metaphysics so I have something to fall back on if my business doesn't turn out the way I planned?

3. Stay enrolled at Toledo and finish out my degree there, and pursue metaphysics only AFTER I have a stable job and income?

4. Drop out of Toledo, and focus all my attention on getting my degree in metaphysics and acheiving my goal of having a healing/learning center?

Also, if you think I should stay with Toledo, should I declare a minor in business?

And also, which do you think sounds better and would give me the most career opportunities University of Metaphysical Sciences or Healing Art Forms Institute?

Thank you in advance for any advice!

I'm just learning the technique of creating thoughtforms. I made a sigil, it's hard to forget it because of its simplicity. But I don't know why we have to forget it, really. Wouldn't memorizing it be better? It'll permeate through life regardless, but having it memorized would work since we can't be thinking of sigils all day anyways.

I'm using the Goddess Fuji, once the Goddess of Mt. Fuji, she was the friend of women and protector of children and fertility. I figured, that as a protective thought-form she would work.

Are there any suggestions for any sort of ritual to make it work? She is being called specifically to dispell cruelty and terror.

I invoke thee, oh Great Fuji, friend of women
To stir the fire within, unleash
your scorching flames to those who would
harm innocence and torture for pleasure
Be a friend to those who love, and those who strive
to be strong and survive, the weak, the willful
the bold spark admist the spiraling wind

Does this sound good?

Aliens almost certainly exist but humans should avoid making contact, Professor Stephen Hawking has warned.
In a series for the Discovery Channel the renowned astrophysicist said it was "perfectly rational" to assume intelligent life exists elsewhere.
But he warned that aliens might simply raid Earth for resources, then move on.
"If aliens visit us, the outcome would be much as when Columbus landed in America, which didn't turn out well for the Native Americans," he said.
Prof Hawking thinks that, rather than actively trying to communicate with extra-terrestrials, humans should do everything possible to avoid contact.
He explained: "We only have to look at ourselves to see how intelligent life might develop into something we wouldn't want to meet."

Hi everyone, I am Kalinda. My name means Sun in Sanskrit but also refers to a body of water, the Kalinda. I'm not sure where to put myself or how to define what I do. I'm fascinated by magick and have an interest in Crowley, divination, and ancient Grimoires. I want to go further than just reading cards, but I'm not sure where to begin or how to tap into the nature of spirit. I like theorizing, and yet like an agnostic I never drawn conclusions. I do believe there is a lot out there, but finding the way is the hardest part. I live in a very non-spiritual household, my brother's an atheist, my father's borderline agonistic as he stopped going to Church, and my mom is free spirited but not super religious...so that's my family, and most of my friends aren't as into it as me.

This forum attracted me with its wealth of information and people...so I hope that it works out and maybe I'll learn something.

That being said, it is nearly impossible to find one that hasn't been reconstituted or heated to be shaped. I was just wondering does you peoples of this wonderful world think that heating something like that or even taking separate pieces and melding them together with linseed oil or whatever else take away from it's properties that it originally may have just as a single piece of amber? Or would it still contain all of its properties that to its fullest?

Last night I was the photographer for my friends wedding. I'm not a professional by any means, she just likes the pictures that I take and that is what led to it.

I've been to a few weddings but because my main job was to capture people's emotions I was paying attention to everything. To me it wasn't a wedding but I was detached from what was going on because I was focusing on the task at hand.

The main emotion that I see last night was love but I also seen the by-product of this emotion as well. Lust, sadness, longing, jealousy, happiness, and raw animal instinct.

I let myself get caught up in it, embraced the feelings of the night, and was high on emotion. This morning I'm feeling the hangover.

This may sound weird but I'm so happy to be out of my last relationship. It was more of a relationship of necessity than anything else but with that being said when I woke up this morning I realize that I've never been in an actual loving relationship with someone that I consider and considers me an equal. This is something that has got me a little down today.

Back in the day when I did a lot of drugs and partied quite a bit I would wake up feeling like this. Tired, a little depressed, with the thought of "what is going to happen with my life." I haven't done any kind of drug and haven't drank in three years and I'm still going strong but this feeling is just weird.

I never thought emotions would do this to a person.

LOL...well, if you read this far I'm sorry if I sound like I'm whining. I just needed a place to get this out and seeing that all of my friends are either in relationships or see other people just as a piece of meat I don't have many people to talk to.

Thanks for listening.

When I was younger my Aunt (who had a voracious interest in palmistry) was getting a sliver out of right my hand and proudly spotted the Croix Mystique.

-----------------------------------
"What is called "La Croix Mystique" is found in the quadrangle of the hand
between the Lines of Heart and Head.

It is more usually found in the centre of this part of the hand, but it
may be also found nearer the one side of the quadrangle or the other.

This mark denotes a natural gift or talent for mysticism and occultism of
all kinds.

When placed nearer Jupiter, it denotes the employment of these studies
more to gratify the subject's own pride or ambition than the following
out of such things for their own sake.

When it is in the centre of the quadrangle, across the Line of Fate, or
immediately under the Mount of Saturn, such studies become more of a
religion or are followed for their own worth and the influence and truth
of occultism will play a leading role in the whole career. Most likely
the possessor of this mark will follow it as a profession, or will
crystallise his researches into the form of books.

When this mark lies lower down in the quadrangle, nearer to the Mount of
the Moon, the subject will study some form of occultism more from a
superstitious standpoint than any other. None the less, he will be likely
to succeed in doing so, and influence other people through his studies,
and with this latter form he will be more likely to write beautiful
mystic poetry with the prophetic note running through it very strongly."
--------------------------------

Mine is located in the middle of the heart and head lines, in between the mounts of Saturn and Apollo.

Anyone else have this same mark?

I'd post this over in the paranormal section, but it seems pretty ghostly over there. No activity for over a month. ;)

Last night I wasn't feeling well. Took me a couple hours to finally get to sleep. I woke up twice during the night to the sound of the dog barking downstairs and a strange knocking noise. Not sure if it was someone being an idiot (I'm staying with my boyfriend at his parent's house in a suburb of Chicago) or if I was dreaming. I asked my boyfriend about it this morning and he said he didn't hear a thing. This surprises me because he's a very light sleeper and his parents have a loud, yippy Shi Tzu who could wake Sleeping Beauty if she tried hard enough.

Is it possible that I was dreaming?
Or should we get out a shotgun and keep it next to the door? :)

I have one favorite actor who I think is constantly underestimated, and that is Kevin Durand. Someone who can act so well an make a role with so much prosthetic makeup as he usually is cast with is a very talented man:

He played Joshua in the TV series Dark Angel with such a conviction that I am amazed Joshua doesn't exist.

Here is what he looks like in real life:

(A couple of years ago.)

Here's his IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0243806/

He's done some great roles. I am sad to say I haven't seen too much of him. Some things are hard to get a hold of outside of the US.

My actress is Emma Thompson, here she is with another underrated actor from the movie adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing from 1993, Kenneth Branagh (they were married at the time):

Kenneth's IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000110/

Emma's IMDB : http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000668/

They both have an incredible range!

I also have to include Denzel Washington because his performance in The Bone Collector with only facial and voice acting was amazing.

I have a feeling that I may be pregnant, and if I were, it would become a potentially very serious problem for me right now. So I need input on whether or not I actually am pregnant, or if it is just me stressing about it for nothing. All of my tarot readings lately have also been pointing towards pregnancy. Is it possible that I am pregnant now, or that I will be in the near future?

Some may no, many do not, my current job is a shuttle bus driver for a hotel. I pick up and drop off flight crews to our airport. Thursday night Newark NJ cancelled many of it's flights for Friday in fear of Earl. I thought it was a bit odd to cancel flights 24 hours in advance, and then found it kind of sad when all flights could have left as scheduled due to Earl not doing a whole lot. I started talking to crews about this last night and today. Flights were cancelled because fear that flights might not take off on time and passengers could be stranded in a plane on the ground for a few hours.

So, I started thinking about this scenario. Let's say you are visiting the east coast from Europe. Would you want to wait 4-5 days for a flight and be insured that you wouldn't have to be on a plane waiting a couple hours on takeoff, or would you rather take a gamble that you might have to wait on an airplane for a couple hours and know that the airlines would get you home as quickly and safely as possible? How about if you missed your best friends wedding in Germany out of fear that you might be inconvenienced? How about if you missed a job interview for the same reason? Or you were in the military and missed the birth of your child because of fear that someone might be slightly uncomfortable?

Robin Hardy was the director of the original "Wicker Man" movie, which, as people who have seen my other threads on the subject can probably guess, is one of my favorite movies ever.
Just a quick question. I have the house to myself tonight so I'm planning on casting a success spell to help me make the most of the next couple of weeks before a review at work.:hyper:

I have all the materials I need including some candles and I wanted to check in to see if anyone had any recommendations on what symbols I might carve into the candles to give them a little something extra? ;)

Does anyone know of a good resource for symbols online? I'd love to troll though it before the spell and pick out some good ones!

Thanks in advance!

I've been having a hell of a time finding something for my cat Smudgy to eat.

He recently became allergic to something in his usual cat food. The vet thinks it's probably the grains, so I took him off it and tried something grain-free (three things, actually), and he didn't tolerate any of them. He was constantly throwing up, lost a bunch of weight, and most of his hair fell out.

Then I got special hypo-allergenic food from the vet made of duck meal, and he wouldn't touch it.

I thought maybe he'd like canned food, and bought several different kinds, but he *doesn't know how* to eat them. I tried giving them to him cut up, mashed up, whole, mixed with dry food, mixed with fresh food, and pureed. He just can't do it. He had a brain virus shortly after he was born, and that has left him...less than intelligent.

Sooo, I thought maybe if I cooked some food for him, he'd eat that. I tried chicken, salmon, beef, tuna, lamb, and turkey. I mixed them with rice, mixed them together, mixed them with veggies...all sorts of things.

Nothing.

So now I've got a cat that's allergic to all the cat foods I've tried, is fussy, and isn't capable of eating anything that doesn't come as little hard pieces!

Whiskas Temptations seem to agree with him, but I cannot feed him solely on cat treats. That's quite unhealthy, and he will be as big as our house.

Anyone have a similar situation? How do you deal with it?

Right now he is eating Evo, which seems to be alright in small quantities, but I don't think he's getting enough nutrition because he's not eating enough. I've been supplementing it with cat treats throughout the day, so at least he isn't going hungry. I'm not sure what else to do, and neither is the vet. He said he's actually never come across a cat that wasn't capable of eating things that weren't dry cat food.

He's put back a tiny bit of the weight he's lost, but he still looks terrible. He seems to be feeling a lot better though, and is throwing up very rarely.

HELP!

How do you store your DVD's or Blue Rays? Do you keep them on a shelf? Have them on your computer? Keep them in a book?

I have like 30 square feet and growing of DVD's on the walls when they are in their cases. I find they can be overwhelming to browse through on shelves even though they are in alph. order.

I recently started pulling them all from their cases and putting them in flip books that have 4 per page front and back and can hold 228 DVD's each. I have done A-H and that filled one book. I am now in book 2 and in the I's. But a thought occured to me that I may have just totally crapped on the value of said DVD's.

I cut the images from the covers of the DVD's to put in the spaces in the books to mark what goes where and so that you can still find movies easily.

I don't plan on ever selling my collection, it's why I buy them. However, in today's economy, who knows. One month next year, I may find that I need to eat one month, and could have used to sell. Oh well, I've already begun.

Anyway, how do you store yours? Thoughts and opinions on the value? Do you value a movie the same with or without the hard cover and art?

:boing:

I know this is a weird question, but I'm curious, what is the appeal of Wicca and other Witchcraft traditions for (heterosexual) men? As a matriarchal religion that focuses on "the gifts of the Goddess", with a Goddess as a central deity, it seems like it has more to offer women.

Many books emphasize the significance of the acknowledgment of feminine divinity for women, which can be an attractive idea for queer men as well, masculinity isn't given much importance. The male god is considered equal, though his role is not as pronounced as that of the Goddess, who is the main source of life and creation.

I'm definitely not trying to say that straight men shouldn't be interested in Witchcraft, as Wicca itself was started by a man, I'm just interested in its appeal for those other than women.
